Project Details

Desalination plants have some of the highest levels of corrosion due to the severe operating conditions of processing saline waters. Corrosion resistance is one of the most important factors considered when choosing the type of structures, equipment, and other materials in these facilities.

Many times, surface preparation options are limited when determining how to best protect structural steel in desalination plants and other similar environments. The Denso CoverCoat System is ideal for protecting irregular surfaces like structural steel base plates and various types of connections as both are truly surface tolerant, not affected by salts or acids, and extremely conformable to virtually any surface.

For this particular application the structural steel was blasted in order to better monitor the effectiveness of these systems over the course of 1 year. The structural steel column was protected by a thin coat of Denso Primer D, Denso Ultraseal Tape, Base coat, and Archco 15. The column base was protected by the Denso Hi-Tack Primer, Denso Hi-Tack Tape, Denso Profi ling Mastic, D-14 Scrim, Base coat, and Archco 15. After one year each system was removed to inspect the substrate which revealed both to be in pristine near white condition, even in the harshest of environments.

Once applied, each system will provide upwards of 20+ years of corrosion protection and ZERO maintenance. This was just another example proving each system will provide the ultimate corrosion protection, while adding to more than 1200 successful applications over many years.
