Exterior Storage Tank Recoat
Project Data
Location | West Texas |
Project Type | Exterior Storage Tank Recoat |
Products Used | Archco 381 |
A leading midstream company in West Texas required recoating for several storage tanks with areas of loose coating and corrosion. To streamline the process and minimize labor costs, Archco 381 was selected for its ease of application and superior performance.
Efficient Surface Preparation & Application
Since the majority of the existing coating remained intact and well-adhered, a full abrasive blast to bare metal was unnecessary. Instead, the tanks’ exteriors underwent a power wash to remove contaminants. Areas with bare steel and loose coating were sweep-blasted to an SSPC-SP7 standard. These prepared sections were then primed with Archco 300 epoxy primer at 2-3 mils DFT. Archco 381 was then applied in a single-coat roller application, achieving a 7-9 mils WFT thickness across the entire tank exterior.
Cost Savings & Efficiency
By utilizing Archco 381 in a single-coat application, the company reduced labor costs by 30-40%. This cost reduction was achieved by eliminating the need for full abrasive blasting and priming of the entire tank surface, streamlining the recoating process.
