Advanced Marine Pile Protection with SeaShield Series FX-70®
In harsh marine and waterfront environments, deteriorated steel, concrete and timber piles can threaten the safety, reliability and service life of critical structures such as piers, bridges and waterfront facilities. The SeaShield Series FX-70® pile repair and protection system from Denso is engineered as a long-term, cost-effective solution that restores structural capacity while protecting piles from ongoing corrosion, weathering and erosion.
A Proven In-Place Pile Repair System
Originally introduced in 1970 as the industry’s first in-place structural pile repair solution, SeaShield Series FX-70® has more than five decades of documented performance in marine structures worldwide. Many early installations remain in service today, demonstrating the system’s long-term durability and reliability in real-world conditions.
As a structural pile repair and protection system for steel, concrete and timber piles, SeaShield Series FX-70® provides owners, engineers and contractors with a single, integrated approach to repairing and protecting damaged sections both above and below the waterline. This helps extend the service life of critical marine and waterfront infrastructure while supporting efficient, predictable maintenance planning.
How the SeaShield Series FX-70® System Work?
At the core of the SeaShield Series FX-70® system is a custom-made, tongue-and-groove-seamed fiberglass jacket that forms a tight, continuous shell around each pile. This corrosion-resistant fiberglass jacket serves as a stay-in-place form during installation and remains in place for the life of the repair, providing a durable protective envelope against seawater, chemicals, weathering and erosion.
Inside the jacket, high-strength, water-insensitive epoxy repair grouts and mortars are placed to bond to existing concrete, timber or steel substrates. These materials restore performance, increase strength and rehabilitate deteriorated piles in wet, splash zone and fully submerged conditions. Depending on the extent of section loss and project requirements, the system can be configured using epoxy grout alone or in combination with non-shrink, anti-washout underwater grout, with repair details engineered for the specific application.
True In-Water Placement Without Dewatering
One of the defining advantages of SeaShield Series FX-70® is its ability to be installed in place, often without taking structures out of service. During installation, the repair materials displace existing water and can be pumped, tremied or poured into the fiberglass jacket while the pile remains submerged.
This true in-water placement capability typically eliminates the need for expensive cofferdams or dewatering, helping reduce overall project cost, complexity and environmental disturbance. By allowing repairs to be completed while structures remain operational, owners can minimize loss-of-use and associated revenue impacts during pile rehabilitation.
Versatile Solution for Diverse Pile Geometries
SeaShield Series FX-70® is engineered for versatility, accommodating piles of various shapes and sizes, including round, square and H-piles, in both underwater and dry environments. The system’s modular fiberglass jackets are custom-fabricated for each project and installed using mechanical fasteners and epoxy-bonded tongue-and-groove joints, eliminating the need for heavy-lifting equipment.
This flexibility allows engineers and contractors to standardize on a single pile repair system across diverse pile geometries and site conditions. By simplifying design, installation procedures and material inventory, SeaShield Series FX-70® supports more efficient project execution and more consistent long-term performance.
Long-Term Corrosion Protection and Low Maintenance
Once installed, the SeaShield Series FX-70® system forms a low-maintenance, corrosion-resistant bond around the repaired pile section. This protective shell helps prevent corrosion, deterioration, weathering and erosion, significantly extending the service life of critical pile-supported structures.
With decades of proven field performance in marine structures worldwide, the system provides owners with a durable, long-term pile repair and protection solution. In addition, the materials used in the SeaShield Series FX-70® system are safe for use in marine-life habitats, supporting repairs in environmentally sensitive areas where protecting aquatic ecosystems is a priority.
Supporting Structural Integrity
Beyond structural performance, SeaShield Series FX-70® is designed to blend easily with existing structures, helping maintain the visual appearance of piers, bridges and waterfront assets. While the system upgrades the underlying structural protection, it also supports owners’ goals for consistent aesthetics across marine facilities and public-facing waterfront environments.
By combining structural restoration, long-term corrosion protection and a clean, uniform exterior, SeaShield Series FX-70® helps owners safeguard both the function and appearance of their marine and waterfront infrastructure portfolios.
